The World’s New Most Expensive Coffee is Straight From the Cat’s Butt

Wealthy coffee lovers of the world rejoice, your story about the $68/cup elephant dung coffee you tried in Thailand will no longer be the only lame story you get to tell at parties. Great Britain’s Harrods department store is now selling more expensive Terra Nera coffee, a brand of much sought after civet palm cat-processed beans.

Just like the elephant dung coffee, the Terra Nera derives its unique qualities of hints of bitter cocoa, hazelnut, and dry leather with a smooth and buttery finish from the digestive enzymes of the civet. After the animals expunge the beans, the byproduct is hand collected and processed immediately in the Peruvian Andes, lending the coffee an exclusivity and small supply with a price tag of $225 – $11,000.

As with most high-end items, the Terra Nera coffee comes with its fair share of swag. It is sold in Britannia sterling silver and 24-carat gold-plated sacks – sounds fancy. And if you buy a pound of the stuff, they even throw in a free coffee machine. (Call in the next ten minutes.)
