Burger King Nigeria is celebrating West African food culture by bringing one of the region’s most beloved dishes to its menu with the all-new Burger King Jollof by Chef T.

Nigerian food and lifestyle creator Thonia “Chef T” Bankz teamed up with the chain to develop her take on jollof rice, pairing the richly seasoned rice with a choice of smoked or spicy chicken and plantains.

Getting jollof onto the Burger King menu took some serious work, too. According to Chef T, she spent months developing the dish and went through 30 attempts before landing on the final recipe.

“After months of hard work, sleepless nights, countless trials, different mixes and 30 attempts, we finally did it,” Chef T shared on Instagram. “We created not just a jollof rice recipe, but a whole jollof rice experience and it’s officially available at Burger King Nigeria!”

“I am so grateful to God, and I am incredibly grateful to Burger King for believing in my work and trusting me with this project,” she added. “So much work happened behind the scenes to bring this to life, and now it’s time for the world to taste what we created. I can’t wait to share the documentary with you.”

For a dish with as much cultural pride—and spirited debate—surrounding it as jollof, getting the recipe right clearly wasn’t something Chef T took lightly. Thirty attempts later, Burger King customers in Nigeria can finally taste where all that tinkering landed.

Burger King Jollof by Chef T is available now at participating locations across Nigeria for 2,500 Nigerian naira.
