Taco Bell Just Remixed The Cheesy Gordita Crunch For Snack Time

After more than 25 years on the menu, Taco Bell is shrinking down one of its most beloved creations for snack time.

The new Gordita Crunch Duos take the basic architecture of a Cheesy Gordita Crunch and turn it into a smaller, two-piece format. Each order comes with your choice of steak or chicken layered with warm flatbread, a melted three-cheese blend, a crispy white corn shell, creamy chipotle sauce, lettuce, and pico de gallo.

Starting Thursday, you can snag two for $5.49 for a limited time. They’re also joining Taco Bell’s $9 Discovery Luxe Box alongside a Doritos Locos Taco, Crunchy Taco, chips with nacho cheese sauce, and a medium fountain drink.

And the Gordita Crunch isn’t the only Taco Bell favorite getting snackified. Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders are also returning for a limited time, complete with Hidden Valley Diablo Ranch Sauce.

All this downsizing is very intentional.

Taco Bell has increasingly turned its attention toward snacking as it looks for more reasons to get people through the drive-thru outside of traditional meal times. Gen Z makes up the majority of its consumer base, and according to Global Chief Innovation Officer Liz Matthews, smaller portions give customers an easier way to treat themselves during the day.

“This generation loves to snack. Making things small is where the consumer’s at,” Matthews said. “People want to feel good after they eat and about what they eat and that includes having the right amount. We’re thinking about that more than ever.”

There’s data behind the move, too. Technomic reports a 7% year-over-year increase in snack visits, and Taco Bell has already spent plenty of time making its menu more snackable. Nacho Fries recently earned permanent-menu status, while the chain previously shrank its Mexican Pizza into bite-sized empanadas.

Now, after more than two decades of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch doing just fine at full size, Taco Bell is seeing how it plays as a snack.
