Massive Alfredo Sauce Spill Shuts Down Memphis Freeway

Imagine being stuck in rush hour traffic when suddenly an overwhelming whiff of Olive Garden infiltrates your nostrils and consumes all airspace around you. Not a bad scenario on paper, sure, and probably a cause for some serious breadstick cravings, but that’s exactly how some commuters in Memphis, Tennessee felt yesterday afternoon, after a massive spill of Alfredo sauce shut down the Northbound Interstate 55 for hours.

The saucy fiasco was reported around 4:43pm local time, yesterday afternoon, as a tractor-trailer truck hauling possibly thousands of jars of Alfredo sauce struck a median and overturned. Sauce fucking everywhere and no noodles or breadsticks around to save the day. What a shame.

Unfortunately, that once intoxicating smell of fresh Alfredo sauce took a turn for the worse as the summer sun assaulted the spill, creating a scent I can only imagine as being equal parts McDonald’s ball pit and roasted garlic. Divine.

Reporter Kate Bieri of Fox 13 told The New York Times, “Unfortunately, this is Memphis, and we had some pretty intense sun beating down on that Alfredo sauce, and also humidity,” she said. “It was just not a great recipe for a highway full of Alfredo sauce.”

Fortunately the driver of the truck was admitted to the hospital with only minor injuries.

Ain’t no way I’m crying over spilled milk, but an Alfredo sauce spill of this magnitude got me feeling a little misty eyed right now.
