Sonic Just Went All-In On 2026’s Biggest Flavor Trend
The great banana takeover of 2026 continues, and Sonic is the latest chain to go all in.
Banana has become one of the year’s biggest flavor trends, fueled by everything from banana matchas and cold foam on TikTok to a growing wave of banana-flavored products hitting menus and grocery shelves. Now Sonic is dropping an entire banana collection, including the return of its Banana Pudding Shake and three new creations.
Here’s what’s going bananas nationwide:
- Banana Pudding Shake: Banana pudding-flavored soft serve blended with vanilla wafer cookie crumbles, then topped with more cookie crumbles, whipped topping, and a cherry.
- Banana Pudding Blast: Banana pudding-flavored soft serve blended with vanilla wafer cookie crumbles and finished with even more crumbles on top.
- Banana Dirty Dr Pepper: Dr Pepper mixed with real banana and cream, giving the dirty soda trend a decidedly fruity plot twist.
- Banana Pudding Cream Slush: An icy banana pudding slush blended with vanilla soft serve.
Of the bunch, the Banana Dirty Dr Pepper might be the wildest. Dirty sodas have already become one of the beverage world’s favorite playgrounds, but adding real banana and cream to Dr Pepper’s 23 flavors sounds like the kind of combination you either immediately understand or need to experience for yourself.
Sonic joins a growing list of brands betting on banana this year. Dunkin’ dropped its Goin’ Bananas spring menu, M&M’s released Banana Nut Bread candies, Little Debbie launched Banana Puddin’ Creme Pies, and Califia Farms recently fast-tracked a Banana Crème Almond Creamer to capitalize on the trend.
Whether banana has the staying power to become the next pumpkin spice is still up for debate, but at this point, the fruit has officially escaped the produce aisle.
