Dead Fish Comes Back To Life After Being Served For Dinner

dead fish

How can you tell a fish is fresh when dining at a restaurant? If it comes back to life in front of your eyes, that’s a pretty good sign.

This particularly feisty animal did not want to become dinner just yet. In a viral clip shared on Chinese video site Youku, the recently-served entree slightly flicked its tail before attempting its best Simone Biles impersonation, backflipping out of the serving plate and onto the table.

It’s not 100 percent clear whether the fish had just been cooked, but its flesh was a milky white, suggesting that was the case. What likely happened is that it been slaughtered, dropped into a steamer, and served whole within minutes of death.

When that happens and salt is added into the mix, you can get some pretty crazy zombie-like results. The sodium from salt can trigger muscle reflexes in a recently killed animal, causing them to dance, flop, and squirm. In the case of this particular fish, the saline soy sauce it was served in was the best candidate for that trigger.

Not the most appetizing thing to see your dinner fight back in front of your face, but hey, at least you know it hasn’t been sitting around for a while.
