KFC's Secret Recipe Relocation

It hasn’t happened for 68 years, but Colonel Sanders’ famous secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices is on the move! KFC is relocating the secret recipe to a top-secret maximum security stronghold for a temporary period, while its corporate home undergoes some modern-day security upgrades. To organize the move KFC hired national corporate security expert and former New York City Police Detective Bo Dietl and also coordinated with Brinks armored truck service as well as the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Some highlights from the news release:

  • The secret recipe blend of herbs and spices is etched on a yellowing sheet of paper, written by the Colonel himself in 1940. It hasn’t changed since then.
  • To transport the recipe to the undisclosed temporary location, it was stored in a lockbox, and then handcuffed to corporate security expert and former NYC detective Bo Dietl.
  • “There’s no way, shape or form … that anybody is going to get their hands on this recipe,” he said. “And if they get their hands on this recipe, they have to take me with them.”
  • He then rode in an armored truck to the temporary holding place. No joke.
  • Only two KFC executives know the secret recipe, and a third knows the combination to the safe where they are held.
  • The identities of these three executives are secret and for security reasons, they are not allowed to travel in the same plane or car together.
  • Many suppliers are involved in the blending together the 11 herbs and spices of the secret recipe. They are all bound by strict secrecy agreements, and none on them produce the entire blend, only parts.

The Holy Grail of Chicken. That’s hype.
