This New Microwave Achieves Perfect Popcorn by Listening as it Cooks

Whirlpool’s latest microwave, the 1.9 cu. ft. Microwave Hood Combo with TimeSavor, has the ability to listen to itself cook, which has some serious implications on perfecting the cooking of popcorn. The product utilizes a new technology called the Accupop cycle, a feature powered by a sound sensor that helps the machine adapt its cooking time between kernel pops.

What does that mean? Apparently, a perfectly popped bag of popcorn, every time.

Since the system can hear the deviation in pops between remaining kernels and adjust the cook time accordingly, you no longer need to know the size of the bag you’re popping or deal with those obnoxious unpopped kernels. No more waiting by the microwave, listening for the 4 seconds in between popping, this first-world gadget ensures you never set your house on fire again.

The microwave launched earlier this month, and starts at $419 at available retailers.
