Costco Is Finally Letting You Order Custom Cakes In The App

If you’ve ever stood in Costco’s bakery aisle squinting at a clipboard like it’s a government form, this one’s for you.

Costco is officially dragging its custom cake ordering into the digital age.

The warehouse giant plans to let members order its beloved made-in-house cakes directly through the Costco app sometime in 2026. Same goes for party platters like sandwich trays, shrimp cocktail, and other big energy celebration foods. Translation: no more filling out paper slips. No more awkwardly hovering near the bakery counter. No more making two separate Costco runs just to secure a birthday cake.

Costco CEO Ron Vachris confirmed the update during a December 2025 earnings call, saying the change came straight from member feedback. In his words, a lot of Costco’s systems felt “clunky,” and they’re finally moving those experiences into a digital state.

Honestly? About time.

Right now, ordering a custom Costco cake means physically going into the store, filling out a handwritten form, and coming back later to pick it up. Phone orders aren’t even an option. It’s charming in a “this feels like 2004” kind of way, but wildly inconvenient in a world where you can DoorDash tacos at 2 a.m.

Once app ordering goes live, members should be able to customize cakes (yes, including messages) and place platter orders in one tap. It also means fewer errors from scribbled handwriting and fewer excuses for misspelled birthday names.

There’s no exact launch date yet, just a rough “within 12 months” timeline from that investor call. Some Reddit users have already spotted what looks like a test version of cake ordering inside the app, but it doesn’t appear to be live for everyone. Costco employees have reportedly told customers to keep checking as the feature rolls out slowly across regions.

For now, it’s still pen-and-paper season. But soon, Costco cake culture officially enters its app era.
