‘Pepper X’ At Over 3 Million Scoville Is The New World’s Hottest Pepper
A few months ago, history was made when a Welsh chili grower invented the Dragon’s Breath chili. At 2.48 million Scoville heat units, it easily eclipsed the Carolina Reaper to gain the title of world’s hottest pepper. Now however, a fiery new pepper, Pepper X, has been revealed to the world that puts the heat of even the Dragon’s Breath to shame.
Pepper X has been in the works for nearly 10 years, and is the latest brainchild chili to come from Smokin’ Ed Currie. The proprietor of PuckerButt Pepper Company, Currie is also the man who created the Carolina Reaper. Pepper X has way more heat than his world-famous Reaper, dialing it at an insane 3.18 million Scoville heat units.
For those of you that don’t know, a Scoville heat unit is equivalent to one dilution of a chili pepper in water. Heat levels are measured by the number of dilutions it would take to completely eliminate the heat from a pepper. Thus, Currie’s Pepper X would require over 3 million of these dilutions, an amount that no chili in the world has yet to reach.
Smokin’ Ed has already sent his submission to Guinness for Pepper X to claim the official Guinness World Record title of “World’s Hottest Pepper,” and expects that to be confirmed some time in November. Currently, you can only find the chili inside of The Last Dab, a special collab hot sauce between First We Feast, hot sauce purveyor the Heatonist, and Smokin’ Ed himself. The sauce is famous for blowing celebrities’ mouths away on First We Feast’s show “Hot Ones,” and is actually even hotter than the Reaper on its own, clocking in at 2.4 million Scoville heat units.
While the initial release of The Last Dab has already sold out, more is on its way as the team at Puckerbutt Pepper Company harvest more of this fiery creation.
