ONION RING DONUTS Serve As The Buns On This Meaty Burger

One of the more creative burger concoctions I’ve seen in my lifetime is the donut burger. To me, it didn’t always make sense — a sweet, glazed, sticky donut serving as the buns for a savory, cheesy, melty burger? The flavor combo sounded bomb, but it just seemed like it would be a total mess to eat.

Then, this burger showed up and made me realize just how amazing donut burgers can really be.

This epic burger, served at The Speakeatery in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is different from any other donut burger I’ve seen. That’s because instead of glazed, sticky donuts serving as the buns, the donuts here are each made with an ONION RING.

The burger itself is a meaty monster, containing two beef patties, pork roll, bacon, and American cheese. Then, The Speakeatery takes thick cut rings of white onion, dips them in a donut batter, and deep-fries it to golden perfection. There’s no glaze on the rings afterward, meaning that you get an airy, yeasty, crunchy onion ring sandwiching a pile of juicy, savory meat.

Plenty of burgers have stuffed onion rings within their buns before, but actually using them as a bun? And in donut form? That’s a culinary checkmate.

If all donut burgers started getting made with onion rings, count me on board this hype train.
