PBR’s Response To A 40,000-Pound Beer Heist Is Pretty Incredible
Have we as a society been watching far too many movies or what? Because it seems like large-scale heists are popping off more and more frequently. Just last year, we reported on the con man who stole 22 tons of award-winning cheese and the thieves who boosted $1 million worth of Guy Fieri’s Santo Tequila. Now, Pabst Blue Ribbon just got jacked for 40,000 pounds of beer in what may be one of the biggest beer heists in history.
The Montclair Police Department shared news of the thefts on its Facebook page. According to the post, two cargo trucks carrying beer went missing from the local Anheuser-Busch distribution center on August 17. The thefts happened about an hour apart, with the first occurring around 10 a.m. and involving a PBR shipment worth $45,000 that never reached its destination. The second shipment was worth another $25,000. Apparently, an alleged subcontracting company used fraudulent paperwork to secure the pickups.
Investigators found similarities between both incidents but have yet to determine whether they’re connected. In both cases, the thieves took only the cargo and left the trucks behind, according to The New York Times.
PBR responded by sharing an inventory of the stolen goods in an Instagram post, which included 1,400 cases of PBR and nearly 200 cases of Old Milwaukee NA.
“To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way,” the caption read.
In a surprising move, the company even offered not to press charges if the beer was returned by September 8, saying there would be “no questions asked.” PBR also offered a reward to anyone with information about the theft and closed the post with, “P.S. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
PBR shared another post confirming that the investigation was still ongoing and once again asked, “If you have any leads on cracking this case, DM us.”
