Obesity Chases Tobacco in U.S. Preventable Deaths

As a guy who just recently wrote a review with bacon stuffed breakfast crackers and has lobbied for McDonald’s to bring bacon pastrami burgers to the U.S., this picture really hits home.

If the earth doesn’t explode at the end of this year, we might be looking at the year 2020 as the next doomsday year. The graphic below from the Medical Coding Career Guide made a bold prediction that half of Americans will be diabetic or pre-diabetic. HALF of the American population!

Obesity will reduce life expectancy by 13 years and 21 percent of medicare will go toward obesity-related medical expenses.

I’m not going to lie, as a part of the obese American publication, this picture is frightening. Obesity is catching up to tobacco in preventable deaths in the U.S., which can only lead to witty anti-obesity commercials similar to the anti-tobacco ones.

It’s hard to think that America would get that out of control, but I have faith in our food industry. As long as cooking with bacon fat becomes the norm, Krispy Kreme vending machines are installed in every public school, and someone invents butter-infused organic fruits and vegetables, we’ll be on a good pace to reach these predictions.

Seriously though, it makes you think. I think I’m going to grab an apple right now.
