Wendy’s Japan is celebrating fall by putting fried mochi inside a burger, which is the kind of international fast food development that makes us painfully aware of what we’re missing stateside.

Beginning August 27, Wendy’s First Kitchen locations across Japan will bring back the Tsukimi Mochi Burger series, a seasonal lineup combining chewy fried mochi, egg, bacon, cheese, and burger patties into one gloriously stacked situation.

The burgers tap into Japan’s annual Tsukimi, or moon-viewing, season. Fast food chains across the country traditionally celebrate with limited-edition burgers featuring eggs, whose round yolks evoke the full moon. Wendy’s takes the tradition one chewy step further by frying mochi in-store and throwing that into the equation, too.

This year, Wendy’s is giving its lineup a New York-inspired spin with four different options:

  • NY Tsukimi Mochi Burger — ¥1,180: A 100% beef patty stacked with fried mochi, egg, crispy bacon, and a rich, tangy American-style sauce.
  • NY Tsukimi Mochi Burger Double — ¥1,780: The big homie of the bunch doubles down with more beef, bacon, and cheddar cheese alongside the fried mochi and egg.
  • NY Tsukimi Mochi Spicy Chicken Fillet Burger — ¥980: Swaps the beef for spicy chicken while keeping the fried mochi, egg, and tangy sauce.
  • Jr. NY Tsukimi Mochi Burger — ¥820: A smaller version of the original for anyone who looked at the previous three and decided restraint was still an option.

Meanwhile, sister chain First Kitchen is leaning further into Japanese flavors with four Tsukimi Mochi creations of its own. The lineup includes smash burgers and crispy chicken tatsuta paired with fried mochi and egg, then dressed with either mentaiko mayo or a combination of teriyaki and tartar sauces.

Putting mochi on a burger might sound like some beautiful fast food mashup, but the combination has history at First Kitchen. Its Tsukimi Mochi series returns annually as a limited-time fall offering, while Wendy’s joined the party last year following its own launch of the concept.

The 2026 Wendy’s and First Kitchen Tsukimi Mochi lineup arrives across Japan on August 27 and is expected to stick around through early October while supplies last.

And once again, Japan’s fast food menus have us staring across the Pacific with envy.
