SOON: Food Stamps May Not Work On Snacks, Seafood Or Steak

It seems like a lawmaker in Missouri feels the folks who require food assistance are living too fat and happy, because he’s making a push for regulations that limit what can be bought through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

According to the Washington Post, if the proposed legislation goes through, people using food stamps will not be able to purchase food items such as cookieschips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood or steak.

Rep. Rick Britton is the lawmaker trying to get this thing going and told the WaPost:

“The intention of the bill is to get the food stamp program back to its original intent, which is nutrition assistance.”

Apparently the food stamp outrage can be linked to this 2013 Fox News report, where some stoned surfer was grilling “EBT Lobster” and eating sushi. Because of this video, it’s clear that everyone getting food assistance is probably a stoner, beach bro who takes advantage of the system. Just forward to 4:00 mark to watch him shop, unless you want to watch him “skate it up” and “hit on some chicks.”

Britton said he might need to work on the verbiage a bit, but something needs to be done because he’s essentially tired of people abusing the program, buying filet mignon and crab legs.

While his law has the intention of highlighting the nutrition part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, it really just jump starts the old debate on whether or not people in poverty should be eating as well as these lawmakers.
