KFC is giving one of its longest-running cult favorites a well-deserved moment in the spotlight.
For a limited time, participating KFC locations nationwide are serving a Country Fried Steak Meal for $4.99 every Wednesday. The meal includes crispy country fried steak smothered in white gravy, mashed potatoes with gravy, coleslaw, and a warm biscuit.
While the deal may feel new to many customers, the menu item has been around for decades. KFC first introduced Country Fried Steak in 1984, and by the late ’80s it had expanded into select markets across the U.S. Since then, the chain has brought it back periodically as a regional Wednesday special, helping it develop a loyal following among longtime KFC fans.
According to KFC, restaurants that already carried Country Fried Steak saw average daily orders jump nearly 20% after the company expanded availability earlier this month. The chain has even referred to it as one of its “best-kept secrets.”
The Wednesday promotion also continues KFC’s recent push toward value-focused meals. Over the past several months, the brand has brought back Popcorn Chicken, expanded its weekday value bucket deals, introduced Box Feasts starting at $7, and rolled out additional meal offers aimed at stretching diners’ budgets.
