For more than 15 years, 7UP has mostly left its signature lemon-lime formula alone. Apparently, lime finally got tired of being the backup dancer.

Beginning in mid-August, 7UP is rolling out 7UP Lime Lemon, a permanent reformulation of its flagship soda that puts more emphasis on lime for what the brand describes as a bolder, crisper citrus flavor.

The change marks 7UP’s biggest evolution in more than 15 years and will affect the brand’s entire core lineup, including 7UP Regular, 7UP Zero Sugar, Cherry 7UP, and Cherry 7UP Zero Sugar. This isn’t another limited-edition flavor destined to disappear from shelves in three months, either. Lime Lemon is becoming the new 7UP.

The brand says it hasn’t completely overhauled the soda we know. Instead, it turned up the lime while maintaining the familiar balance between its two citrus flavors. The sweeteners haven’t changed, either.

Why give lime the promotion after all these years? Younger drinkers apparently want their beverages to speak with their chest.

According to Keurig Dr Pepper’s State of Beverages 2026 Trend Report, 72% of Gen Alpha and Gen Z consumers gravitate toward citrus-forward flavors, while 64% prefer bold, intense taste experiences. Those preferences helped inspire 7UP to push its formula toward a brighter, more lime-forward profile.

Lime’s promotion comes with a new fit, too.

All four core 7UP varieties will receive redesigned packaging featuring a vertical logo, bolder colors, updated graphics, and a prominent “Lime Lemon” designation. The company tested 10 different design concepts before landing on the new look, which draws from visual elements found throughout 7UP’s history.

The reformulated 7UP Lime Lemon begins rolling out nationwide in mid-August anywhere 7UP products are sold.
