Kosher Kush Might Let Jews Indulge in Weed Brownies

Jews in New York haven’t been able to get any weed in their life, totally deprived of Pineapple Express-like adventures. For one, it’s illegal to smoke, and although legal to use as edibles, the process hasn’t been Kosher.

According to the Jewish Daily Forward, the Orthodox Union is quietly talking to several companies to get a Kosher seal of approval for marijuana edibles, as long as they’re for medicinal use.

It’s still not super accepted to smoke weed for recreational use in the Jewish community, but it’s becoming more commonly accepted to do it for medical reasons.

Although the politics and ethics behind marijuana usage still exist, even for Jews, this is one step toward at least getting it consumed in a kosher manner.

Rabbi J. David Bleich told the Forward that marijuana is “a perfectly acceptable use of a plant that grows in God’s garden,” but added it can still be “pleasure for pleasure’s sake… certainly not that to which a Jew should aspire.”

So it’s still frowned upon to imbibe for the high’s sake, Jews in New York might soon be able to eat up some kosher brownies and maybe even some Burweedos if they have a medical reason.
