Fears Confirmed, New Study Shows Diet Soda Is Making Us Fatter Than Regular Soda

You’re sitting at the drive-thru and the van in front of you orders 15 cheeseburgers, 5 large fries, 6 apple pies and a diet soda. While that stack of fast food isn’t doing their body any good, that diet soft drink can be doing them just as much harm.

A recent study shows that diet soda can be more detrimental to weight loss than we initially thought.  The San Antonio Longitudinal Study of Aging found that diet soda drinkers sometimes gain three times as much stomach fat compared to consumers of regular soda.

Casual drinkers, over a period of ten years, gained 2.11 centimeters of fat in their belly area and non-drinkers gained .77 centimeters. Those that consume at least one can of diet soda every day gained about 3.04 centimeters.

Taking data from a sample group of 750 people ages 65 and older, the study filtered out factors like smoking, exercise and age.

Sure, we all know the harmful affects diet soda can have on the body, but gaining weight totally defeats the purpose of the “diet” altogether.

Right?
