People are increasingly looking for ways to save money on dining. In 2025, the average American household has paid almost $1,200 more on food due to Trump tariffs, per calculations by Democrats on Congress’ Joint Economic Committee.

According to data from YouGov, more than a quarter of Americans (28.2%) use food delivery apps at least once a week, which includes four in 10 Millennials and Zoomers.

To help Americans save money, NetCredit launched a study to determine which of the most popular food delivery apps—DoorDash, Grubhub, or Uber Eats—was most affordable.

NetCredit compiled the price of popular items from Subway, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, KFC, Popeyes, Burger King, and Taco Bell on each delivery app, in 100 of America’s most populous cities, and the five largest in every state. It then summarized and compared the prices for each item to determine the cheapest service.

The study first identified the cheapest delivery app in each state, finding that Grubhub is the most affordable service in 24 states. In New York, several items from seven fast food chains cost 2.57% less on Grubhub than if you ordered via DoorDash, and 2.73% less than on Uber Eats. DoorDash is the cheapest service in 13 states, including the major cities Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, and Uber Eats is most affordable in 13 states.

DoorDash is also the cheapest option in California overall, except for in San Jose (Uber Eats) and San Diego (Grubhub). Interestingly, DoorDash and McDonald’s are partners, but Grubhub is still the most affordable option to order McDonald’s from in 24 states.

To further help consumers save money on takeout, NetCredit organized its data into an interactive table that makes it easy to find the cheapest delivery option in your state or city. If you’re interested in a detailed breakdown of the study, click here.
