Queso Brand Gets Recalled For Forgetting To Say It Contains Cheese

In what could probably go down as the most bizarre food recall in history, a brand of queso was recalled because it contained undeclared cheese.

You'd think it would go without saying that queso has cheese in it, right? Apparently not, as Texas Legend Foods is recalling its Chipotle Queso Dip for failing to mention on its label that milk, eggs, and cheese are present. Furthermore, production of that queso has been halted until the FDA and Texas Legend Foods can confirm that the error has been corrected.

What exactly went wrong can be gleaned from the FDA's statement regarding the recall:

"The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk, cheese and egg containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the milk, cheese and egg. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes."

This likely means that some sort of labeling error occurred in which allergens like milk, cheese, and egg were not declared on the label, as is required by law for any food containing something that can produce an allergic response. Typically, you'd find these under the Nutrition Facts label of a product, so it's possible something went wrong during that part of the printing process.

While it's an inconvenience for Texas Legend, at least they got an odd, yet hilarious tale to tell out of it.
