Major League Baseball Finally Has An Official Hot Dog

If there was one food item synonymous with baseball, it would definitely be the hot dog.

As a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan, I’ve been to my fair share of baseball games and almost never go without getting a frankfurter as part of the experience.

Baseball teams across the country understand the importance of the hot dog, and serve up their own iconic versions of this ballpark staple. From the Atlanta Braves’ Dixie Dog to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Dodger Dog, this sausage has etched its way into baseball fans’ hearts.

Despite all of the history behind this meal, Major League Baseball (MLB) has never had an official hot dog in its 141-year history… until now.

MLB recently announced that they had officially selected Nathan’s Famous the first Official Hot Dog of Major League Baseball. The hot dog brand will also become a key supporter of MLB’s Play Ball initiative to get kids outside and playing baseball, and will remain the official hot dog of the St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins, the New York Mets and Yankees, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Baseball legend John Franco was a huge fan of the initiative, and said there was “no better way to watch the game than with a Nathan’s hot dog” while out promoting the new partnership.

Nathan’s Famous, which started out as a hot dog stand on Coney Island, New York around 100 years ago, is now a frankfurter icon that has independent and food court-based hot dog stands nationwide on top of a line of grocery store products. It’s definitely a notable brand that is worthy of such a title.

While it’s not confirmed if every single stadium in MLB will be carrying Nathan’s now, one thing is for certain: when people think baseball, they’ll begin to think Nathan’s Famous hot dogs rather than just hot dogs.
