DoorDash Plans To Spend $50 Million Helping Drivers Pay For Gas
In its First Quarter Financial Results, DoorDash shared that it expects to spend over $50 million on gas price relief for delivery drivers.
Gas prices have skyrocketed due to the Iran war, heavily cutting into the slim margins that drivers make. The national average for a gallon of gas on Friday, May 8 was $4.54, over a dollar more than a year ago. Meanwhile, the demand for delivery remains.
Gas price relief is available to U.S. and Canadian drivers. DoorDash launched the program in March 26, which initially was meant to be temporary. It now appears to have been extended. How it works: drivers with a DoorDash Crimson debit card, which more than half have, earn %10 cash back on any gas purchase.
Meanwhile, if you travel over 125 miles during your shift, you’ll receive between $5 and $15 dollars towards a weekly fuel payment. Canadian drivers get $36 or less based on the weekly miles they travel.
If you’re a DoorDash delivery driver who doesn’t own the Crimson debit card, you can apply for one here.
