Au Gratin World-Record Set

The world record for the largest au gratin dish was broken on Saturday, Sept. 24 by a town in Mount Vernon, Washington. The community gathered together to break a record that had been previously set in Europe for an au gratin dish weighing at 8,400 pounds. The new record, set by the town, is a tremendous 15,000 pounds. That’s a lot of potatoes!

As a part of Mount Vernon’s “Spirit of the Spud” the town came together to participate in the event. Donations were made within the farming community with over 15,000 pounds of potatoes, 200 pounds of cream, 400 pounds of cheese, 100 pounds of onions, 50 pounds of garlic, 7 pounds of salt, and 2 1/2 pounds of pepper.

The potatoes were cooked in a 80 foot stainless steel pan which had been welded together for such an event.
