The Jollibee x Katseye Collab Is So Viral, It’s Selling Out Like Their Tour
How does a global chicken brand sell out of fried chicken?—you put a little sauce on it! Individually, Jollibee and Katseye are both certified superstars in their own right. One is a globally recognized favorite in the fast food game, the other is a group of talented young tastemakers. It just makes sense that the two take the food game to gnarly new heights with a fried chicken collaboration taking the world by storm—becoming increasingly hard to come by just like Katseye’s first world tour.
If you’re just hearing about Jollibee, that may be because the Philippines based chicken shop has been named USA Today’s best fast food fried chicken for two years in a row (beating out many American heavy hitters like Popeyes and KFC).
On the other hand, Katseye has been making waves as America‘s (and the globe’s) latest girl group obsession. The sextuplet is comprised of a diverse group of talented, charismatic young women poised to turn the world upside down.
The Jollibee x Katseye fried chicken collaboration may seem totally out of left field, but in reality their virality has (at the very least) piqued the interest of much of America’s pop culture landscape. Tiktok videos that started with “let’s try Jollibee for the first time“ mukbangs in the car, have now evolved into “They ran out of the Katseye meal, so here’s the classic fried chicken” POVs.
@honey_pill_ We will try again. We promise! @jayi 🧸 @MJ 🍉 (they/them) #katseye #jollibee #katseyemeal #eyekons ♬ Gnarly – KATSEYE
@from88til bc WDYM YOU BEEN SOLD OUT SINCE 11AM @Jollibee @KATSEYE ?!😑😑 @sophia laforteza help a fellow filipino out i just wanna eat🥲 #fyp #jollibee #katseye #friedchicken #gnarly ♬ Gnarly – KATSEYE
The popularity of the collaboration should be of no surprise. Both brand and artists are iconic in their own rights, and the synergy between them coming together in one deliciously saucy and savory fried chicken just tastes so right. It’s no wonder that people all over the U.S. can’t help but post their experience having a hard time getting a taste of the collaboration. It’s likely that nobody in either camp could have even anticipated the demand. The hype was beyond imaginable.
Aside from the fried chicken, no collaboration would be complete without the saucy drip you can throw on your body. The once previously immediately sold out merch collaboration has now been restocked on Complex shop featuring the “Chickenjoy: Gnarly” motif, calling back the iconic line in their hit song of the same name.
