Coca-Cola Now Has A Prebiotic Soda

Prebiotic beverages are all the rage right now, so it was only a matter of time before one of the world’s biggest beverage brands joined the fun.

Coca-Cola has announced Simply Pop, a new fruit-flavored prebiotic soda brand. Simply Pop expands the brand’s Simply line of juices and is marketed to contain 25% to 30% real juice with no added sugars, vitamin C, zinc, and 6 grams of prebiotic fiber per serving — more than the company’s competition, prebiotic soda brand Poppi, yet lower than Olipop, which contains 9 grams.

The move comes in response to increasing health awareness and demand for more nutritious, functional beverages. Additionally, American consumption of traditional sugar-rich soda made with artificial flavors and colors has steadily declined over the past decade, per Business Insider.

Prebiotics are a plant fiber that benefits gut health by feeding on the microbes in your stomach and stimulating healthy bacteria growth. Other benefits include immune system support, inflammation reduction, lowering cholesterol levels, and more.

Simply Pop will begin landing in stores this month, first on the West Coast and in the Southeast. The flavor line-up mirrors the main Simply juice offerings, which include pineapple mango, lime, strawberry, fruit punch, and citrus punch.
