Are Progresso’s New Soup Lozenges Innovative Or Simply Strange?

Lozenges probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Progresso. Yet, the popular canned soup brand has unveiled an intriguing new product that transforms savory stew into hard candy. Progresso’s Chicken Noodle Soup Drops are described as “soup you can suck on.” Innovative or strange? That’s for you to decide. If these drops deliver as promised, Progresso might be onto something.

“When you’re sick, nothing is more reassuring than chicken noodle soup. So, we thought, why stop at the soup bowl? We took the beloved flavors of chicken noodle soup and packed them into a fun, savory candy Soup Drop for a totally new way to enjoy the taste you love wherever and whenever you want,” said MC Comings, vice president and business unit director for Progresso, in a press release.

The soupy lozenge captures the classic flavors of broth, vegetables, and chicken, offering a quick option for people on the go. Progresso’s Soup Drops are priced at $2.49 per can, with each can containing 20 individually wrapped candies. Fans seem as curious as I am—the website reports they’re already sold out and advises checking back Thursday at 9 PM EST.
