McDonald’s Is Opening In Vatican City, But Nobody Wants Them There

In the Catholic community, one of the most holy and sacred grounds is Vatican City, as His Holiness, Pope Francis resides there, and holds massive church services at St. Peter’s Square.

With that in mind, McDonald’s plans to open up shop in the tiny divine city, and neither the residents, nor the cardinals want anything to do with it, according to The Local.

The cardinals are upset that no one ran the restaurant opening by them, which was probably a must, not only because they are part of the holy posse, but because they’re going to be living directly above the spot where the burger joint is going to be built.

They’re so mad, that they got together to write Pope Francis a letter, asking him to do something about this McDebacle.

Financially, the McDonald’s opening makes sense, as The Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, who run the vatican’s real estate,  would be getting 30,000 euros a month from the super chain. But there’s still something unsavory about having the commercial restaurant opening there.

The city is filled with a lot of mom-and-pop eateries, and having that creepy clown stroll in with his bright lights and fancy fast burgers, just doesn’t feel right for the old, conservative city.

We’ll have to wait and see if these protests lead to a stop in construction, but as of now, it looks like the Golden Arches will be making their home next to The Pope’s home.
