Beloved Trader Joe’s Almond Butter Recalled After Possible Salmonella Contamination

Before you bite into that creamy, toasted almond butter sandwich — hold up, check the label. Trader Joes, Whole Foods, MaraNatha, and Kroger brands of Almond Butters, in addition to Arrowhead Mills and MaraNatha brands of peanut butter, have been recalled.

According to the FDA, nSpired, the company that creates the nut butters, issued the recalls after they received four reports of illnesses that may be linked to their spreads. The almond and peanut butters were sold in the US, Canada, Dominican Republic, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong.

“Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems,” warns the FDA. So if you’ve suddenly caught a “fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain,” you should probably toss out that jar of nut butter.”
