Subway Canada Just Turned A Hot Dog Into A Footlong Sub
Subway Canada has started rolling out an inventive new menu item that blurs the line between sub sandwiches and hot dogs. Aptly named the SubDog, it replaces the traditional hot dog bun with Subway’s signature sub bread, swaps deli meat for a premium all-beef footlong frank, and lets customers customize it with the chain’s full lineup of toppings.
The SubDog is available for a limited time at participating Subway locations across Canada through July 26. Select regions will also offer a 6-inch version and combo meal. A full footlong packs 1,280 calories before toppings, though that number varies depending on how you build it.
Online reviews have already started rolling in, and one thing seems clear: Subway didn’t skimp on the hot dog. The chain uses all-beef franks from Canadian meat brand Schneiders.
Interestingly, the SubDog began life as an April Fools’ Day joke in 2022. Customers responded so enthusiastically that Subway turned the concept into a real menu item.
Considering the nearly endless topping combinations, Subway may have stumbled onto a surprisingly fun new menu category. Now the only question is whether the SubDog will eventually make its way to the U.S.
