Smashburger Tests Plant-Based Waters With New Jackfruit Burger

Popular fast-casual franchise Smashburger is testing the plant-based waters with a new limited-time burger in collaboration with jack & annie’s. Aiming to offer a superior plant patty, the new menu item will be made using jackfruit.

The jackfruit patty was made with burger-lovers in mind and delivers a mouthwatering meaty texture. As a naturally nutritious plant, jackfruit is a great protein alternative that’s lower in fat and calories. Toppings include high quality ingredients like American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, Smash Sauce®, and ketchup on a toasted bun.

As the only fast food chain that offers jackfruit burgers, they’ll surely separate themselves from the plant-based pack. Colorado, New York, and New Jersey will determine whether the new menu item is tasty enough for the rest of us around the U.S. Until then, locals looking for a healthier option without sacrificing flavor can find the Plant-Based Classic Smash® Burger at participating locations.

Fans of the franchise can also have any of their signature burgers like Truffle Mushroom Swiss, or Spicy Baja Guardian swapped out for the jackfruit option. If you live in one of the above mentioned locations, hit this link to find a Smashburger near you.
