Nothing sucks more than accidentally losing money. That’s certainly the case for Dewar’s, which recently spilled over $270,000 worth of Scotch whiskey into a nearby river.

In the incident, which occurred at the company’s Glasgow factory on September 17, 5,263 bottles of 12-year-old reserve went flowing into the Clyde river, caused by what workers say was a machinery glitch.

The spill happened some time between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and likely as the Scotch was being transported by automated machinery. The origin of the glitch is unknown, considering how advanced the machines are reported to be.

Along with losing around a thousand gallons of whiskey and thousands of dollars, Dewar’s is in hot water with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, which will investigate whether the spill contaminated the river.

The whiskey is, of course, highly flammable, which is a major concern for the agency. Dewar’s has also launched an investigation of its own.
