Krispy Kreme’s Caramel Chocolate Chip Cake Donut Pretty Much Combines Every Dessert Except Ice Cream

Or, “How to give yourself diabeetus in under three bites.”

Let’s be honest, who isn’t tired of croissant desserts these days? Thankfully, Krispy Kreme didn’t jump on the whole flaky mille-feuille bandwagon and instead ran in the opposite direction, right into the dense, chocolatey arms of its limited time Caramel Chocolate Chip Cake Donut.

Featuring a chocolate cake donut topped with caramel icing and Ghirardelli chocolate chips, the CCCCD is, needless to say, sweet. “Overly sweet,” according Brand Eating, with the caramel icing lacking the necessary butteriness, which is thankfully made up for by the rich cocoas of the donut and chocolate chips.

Like most sugary sweets though, Krispy Kreme’s dessert Frankenstein should be easily tamed by a healthy hunk of light vanilla ice cream. Come now, you’ve already raided the rest of the bakery. Go hard or go home.
