Following Up With That Coma Survivor Who Asked for KFC Upon Waking

After a harrowing experience involving two liver transplants, an eight day coma, and a three week “psychotic episode,” 26 year old Brit Sam Bougher finally came to, surrounded by loving family. His first request upon waking? A KFC chicken burger with gravy.

Bougher’s father Martin explained in The Telegraph that Bougher handwrote his request on an iPad. “We thought he would tell us that he loved us,” Martin said, “but instead he asked for a KFC. Then we knew we had Sam back.”

Unfortunately, Bougher’s doctors were unwilling to satisfy his request, claiming his body wasn’t healthy enough to handle it. But his hardships didn’t end there.

Following the publication of the Telegraph and similar articles this past weekend, Bougher posted a flurry of exasperated tweets regarding his newfound fame as the “KFC guy.”

His tweets, stemming mostly from annoyance with the media, have ranged from declarations of his currently “avoiding KFC like the plague,” to statements like “It’s not gingers that don’t have souls, it’s journalists.”

One recent post even claimed that KFC called asking for his address so they could send him “vouchers,” followed by an exclamation that he’d “rather they donated money to the ITU dept at Kings!”

Bougher is now well-enough to be back home, but still comes in for weekly check-ins at Kings Hospital College to monitor his progress. According to the Huffington Post, he has emphasized that “he’d intended the interview to draw attention to the importance of being an organ donor—not KFC.”

So, as per his well-intentioned request, here’s the Kings College Hospital Charity page: https://givingtokings.org.uk/support-us
