Chipotle Is Bringing Back Its Margaritas, But There’s A Catch

When Chipotle first hit the scene in 1993, its original menu featured margaritas for just $1.95. Buzzy margs remained on the menu in 2013, when Chipotle gave them a premium makeover with Patrón Silver tequila.

But in 2018, according to Inc., the chain gradually began removing margaritas from its restaurants before discontinuing them entirely in 2020. Allegedly, the cost of ingredients, liability concerns, and changes in liquor license policies contributed to their disappearance.

Well, for those of you who remember the days of catching a buzz with your burrito, we’ve got some good news: Chipotle is bringing back margaritas.

Each weekend this October, the chain will resurrect its margaritas at select locations as part of The Summon the Spirits Tour. Available for just $6, each margarita features five ingredients: premium tequila, triple sec, citrus juice, agave nectar, and a fresh lime wedge.

You’ll have to act fast to get your hands on one, though, because the margaritas will move from city to city throughout the month. Here’s the schedule:

  • Denver, Colorado
    • When: October 2 and 3 | 3–9 p.m. local time
    • Where: 2760 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80222
    • Spirit: Where the Spirit Began. The tour kicks off in Chipotle’s founding city, bringing the margarita back to Denver, where the brand’s story started.
  • New York, New York
    • When: October 9 and 10 | 3–9 p.m. local time
    • Where: 185 Montague St., Brooklyn, NY 11201
    • Spirit: Spirits in the City. The tour arrives in one of the world’s most influential cultural capitals for a weekend of spirited celebration.
  • Dallas, Texas
    • When: October 16 and 17 | 3–9 p.m. local time
    • Where: 2401 Victory Park Lane, Dallas, TX 75219
    • Spirit: Where Spirits Freeze. The tour stops in the birthplace of the world’s first frozen margarita machine, with Dallas offering a frozen take on the Chipotle Margarita alongside the original.
  • Los Angeles, California
    • When: October 23 and 24 | 3–9 p.m. local time
    • Where: 7660 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046
    • Spirit: Summon the Stars. The tour arrives in Hollywood, where spirits take center stage.
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
    • When: October 30 and 31 | 3–9 p.m. local time
    • Where: 2801 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70115
    • Spirit: Where Spirits Never Rest. The tour’s Halloweekend finale lands in one of America’s most famously haunted cities.

“Fans never stopped talking about our margaritas after they left the menu, so Halloween felt like the perfect time to revive a Chipotle classic,” said Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing. “For five weekends, we’re giving fans the chance to rediscover the iconic Chipotle Margarita, made with just five real ingredients and the same simplicity we bring to our food.”

The Summon the Spirits Tour will also feature dedicated margarita bars, immersive Halloween decor, interactive activations, and chances to win prizes. The tour culminates with Chipotle’s annual Boorito tradition on October 31, with more details coming later in the month.
