Altoids Sours Are Back (Sort Of): A Tasty Dupe Hits Shelves This Month

Do you remember Altoids Sours and their palm-sized tin jars packed with addictively sour, yet perfectly sweet hard candy? I’m not ashamed to admit I once told my mom a little white lie, claiming they were “fruit mints.” Pretty sure that’s how I scored a steady bi-monthly supply. Those were the golden years—no money, no stress, and not too many problems, aside from sharing way too many of my Altoids Sours with friends.

It’s been over a decade—14 years, to be exact—since Altoids Sours were discontinued. But earlier this month, it was teased that one of our favorite childhood candies is making a comeback, thanks to Iconic Candy, LLC (not the original manufacturers, Altoids or the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company). Iconic Candy’s Retro Sours will bring back some of the memorable flavors, including Mango, Tangerine, and Citrus.

While it’s natural to have doubts about whether or not the product will meet our expectations (I know I do), Iconic Candy is assuring consumers that the revival of the product will use the same recipe as the original Altoids Sours.

Iconic Candy, a family-owned company in the confectionery industry, specializes in reviving discontinued brands, aiming to bring them back to the market in their original form. The company was founded from a desire to enjoy our favorite childhood candies once again.

This month, Retro Sours will initially be available at Cracker Barrel and It’s Sugar stores, with the latter already stocking the candy. Iconic Candy has hinted at expansion plans, aiming to distribute the product nationwide and online as soon as they can reach additional stores, Amazon, and once their new Shopify store is up and running.
