Adventure: The Jones Eastside (Gainesville, FL)

The Jones Eastside is a restaurant that cooks with organic and locally produced food. Sometimes the cost of these products scare people away from ever trying it, but the quality of the food is worth every cent. Plus it never hurts to splurge a little every now and then. Your taste buds will thank you. Check out the rest of the post to see how this adventure went down.

I went with a friend to The Jones on a Monday night to celebrate the end of the semester. We got lucky and ended up going the one night of the week where there is live music. The Jones is a small restaurant, but it’s pretty cozy.

The restaurant has a mission to help the cause of organic and locally produced food that is stated on their menu. Their daily specials written on a wall are the items that especially highlight their cause.

I ordered the Portobello Brioche for a starter, and it was amazing. Portobello mushrooms on top of a toasted organic brioche, served with caramelized onions, Dijon mustard, cheese, greens and balsamic vinegar.

My friend is sort of a health person so she ordered Thai noodles with the peanut dressing on the side. I would not do that to my food, but more power to her.

I ordered one of the specials of the day which was a Chipotle Maple Porkchop. It was served with roasted potatoes and honey glazed carrots. I haven’t had a dish with flavors in that much harmony in a long time. It was spicy, sweet, salty and just overall delicious.

For dessert I got chocolate mousse with locally grown strawberries in a ganache cup. If people tell you that locally produced food doesn’t taste better, they are lying because that thing was bomb.

The Jones Eastside is a great local joint that you have to hit up if you’re ever in the Gainesville area. God knows you need a great meal after the Gator’s last season. Go support other local spots in your community. In my experience, it’s the one of a kind spots that are the best.
