It’s hard to tell whether these new drinkable Street Fighter-themed cards are one of the most innovative ideas ever, or just a gimmicky way to capitalize off of gamer culture. That said, there’s no denying that they are pretty f*ckin’ cool!

Tag-teamed by UHA Mikakuto, a Japanese snack and beverage company, and Kindai University, “ENERGY ARTS” equips traditional Street Fighter collectible cards with a “smart energy-boosting” tool. The pack includes 24 distinct character designs from Street Fighter 6, each card containing an energy drink that can be consumed when the card is snapped in half.

The team calls it “aggressive refilling,” and wanted to provide a one-handed “effortless way to replenish energy” by reducing the number of steps typically required to crack open a can, according to the press release. A single card packs the energy of a 250 milliliter can into just 12 milliliters of liquid.

UHA Mikakuto partnered with the Kindai University eSports Club “Street Fighter 6 Division” to test the cards out. Here are some of the initial reactions:

  • “The design is stylish, and it’s easy to want one.”
  • “I want to keep one with the character I use close at hand.”
  • “It’s easy to open with one hand.”
  • “It doesn’t spill, and your hands stay dry.”
  • “It’s small, so you don’t have to worry about getting up from your seat.”
  • “It’s perfect for use between rounds, for a few seconds during a performance, or during a tournament or when you want to concentrate.”

Currently, as this is not an official Capcom product, you’ll have to wait to try them for yourself, as the cards haven’t gone into production yet. UHA Mikakuto set up a crowd-funding page to help fund the project with a goal of 300,000 yen, and although it’s raked over 4 million yen, an official release date has yet to be announced.
