Papa Johns Tested A New Protein Crust Pizza

This year looks to be all about protein and Papa Johns is the latest fast food chain to hop on the growing trend. The pizza maker tested its new Protein Crust Pizza for one-day-only in Atlanta last week as an exclusive for Papa Rewards Members.

Atlanta residents were treated to two 8-inch pie options, each featuring dough packed with 23-grams of protein, sans artificial flavors and colors. Here is a breakdown of what we might soon see on menus nationwide.

The Meats (55g protein): Savory sausage and pepperoni with a rich six-cheese blend featuring real cheese made from Mozzarella, Provolone, Fontina, Asiago, Parmesan, and Romano cheeses.

The Veggie (49g protein): Mushrooms, green peppers, and onions paired with the same indulgent six-cheese blend for a balanced option that still delivers flavor.

The protein-infused dough was created for people looking to “enjoy the foods they love while staying aligned with more balanced liftstyles,” according to the press release, which also recommended signing up for Papa Rewards “so you don’t miss the next drop!” We’ll take it that the Protein Crust Pizza will be making another appearance.

Fast food is leaning hard into protein, and while Blaze Pizza was the first pizza chain to introduce a protein-infused pizza, Papa Johns is the first major pizza chain. It wouldn’t be a surprise if other major chains follow suit.
