Taco Bell Announces Nationwide Release of Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco

Back in February of this year we reported on Taco Bell testing a new Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco item in Charlotte and Nashville. To recall, this menu innovation was buttermilk fried chicken coated in tortilla chips, paired with a creamy chipotle sauce, with the jalapeño buttermilk-marinated chicken nestled in a puffy bread that’s shaped like a taco.

Starting September 2, this new Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco will be available nationwide at participating Taco Bell locations for a limited time.

Now the uniqueness in this item lay in its ambiguity. It looked more like a sandwich but folded like a taco — an unexpected head scratcher that eventually lead to its popularity in the test markets.

Whether the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco is a taco or a sandwich is a toss up and really worth some discussion, which is why Taco Bell has enlisted actual debate teams to make the call — on September 4 Taco Bell will use two debate teams from the University of Georgia and Clemson University to go head to head in the name of ‘Team it’s a Sandwich’ and ‘Team it’s a Taco’.

“The Great Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco Debate” will air on Saturday, Sept. 4 during the Georgia vs Clemson primetime college football game on ABC 7:30 p.m. ET via a sixty second and three thirty second ad spots.
