Australian Burger Chain “Oporto” Finds Home in Southern California

Hot and direct from the world famous Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, Oporto, a fast casual restaurant concept with a focus on fresh grilled, flavorful chicken burgers, will open its first doors on American soil this Friday, February 25. With over 130 locations already throughout Australia, New Zealand, UK and China, the brand has a reputation to uphold, attempting to bring over its signature tastes, burgers and sauces to Southern California.

Their first location will open at 8220 Haven Ave, at the corner of Foothill and Haven in Rancho Cucamonga, California. This restaurant opening is the first of three planned locations headed by CEO Arnold Dominguez (a former Del Taco executive). Two more locations are planned to open before the end of this year: Ontario and Glendora.

The successful Australian brand sports a beach theme taking note from Australia’s famous Bondi Beach, home to the first Oporto restaurant established back in in 1986. Their menu features Australian-style food with a Portuguese influence, serving chicken, burgers, grilled chicken, “rappas” (wraps), salads and sides including “chips” (fries). Also famous for signature, proprietary sauces, the chain offers up several varieties including Lemon & Herb, Feisty BBQ, PRego or Chilli sauce.

Word on the street is that their house specialty is a “Bondi Burger,” highlighted by two fresh-grilled chicken breast fillets, lettuce, cheese, and mayo served with Oporto’s signature Hot Chilli sauce. Also notable is a “Brekkie,” which is Australian for breakfast, including egg and chicken or Aussie-style bacon burgers served with bbq sauce. Australian bacon is made from the pork shoulder and has a distinctive, leaner taste.

Looks like we have to check this place out when it opens on Friday! For more information, check out their Australian and USA websites.
