This Restaurant Will Serve You an Orange Chicken Burrito Stuffed with Chow Mein

It was 11am on a gloomy Monday morning and there came a chat message from one of my co-workers: “Have you ever heard of an ORANGE CHICKEN BURRITO?

I told him (Marc) to buzz off, as it was much too early on a Monday for his shenanigans. “An ORANGE CHICKEN BURRITO” I responded sarcastically. “Let me guess, there’s chow mein and a fried egg in there too?”

My trivializing responses were quickly countered by a link to a Yelp page for a restaurant matter-of-factly called “Dragon Loco.” Within minutes of perusing the page, I was in love.

It was as if the restaurant based out in Ontario, CA (an hour north of our Orange County office) had done absolutely no market research before opening a “fusion” restaurant at a time when Mexican-Asian fusion was rampant, and at times, saturated. However, the beauty of Dragon Loco lies in their charming naivety, their utter disregard for whatever else is out there, and producing deliciously direct works of Mexican x Chinese art. Oh yeah, and it’s sandwiched in between a family billiards store and a State Farm:

When I asked the charming lady behind the cashier in the near-empty 4-table establishment what their inspiration was, she jovially responded, “Well, we’re Mexican. And who doesn’t love Chinese food? So we make that!”

That was enough background for us. We proceeded to order everything we could:

The Orange Chicken Burrito

This bad boy  had orange chicken, fried rice, chow mein, grilled onions, fried egg, cilantro, avocado sauce and hot sauce. This is the kind of thing that will pat you on your ass for the afternoon, but it’s worth every last coma-inducing calorie.
