Umami Burger Chain Uses Malt Liquor to Beer Batter Their Onion Rings

Who doesn’t love a quality beer batter story?

Following our visit to Umami Burger‘s first Orange County location this past weekend, we left with a host of new information about their chain, including the secret to their Tempura Onion Rings. Turns out their chefs beer batter the rings with Mickey’s brand malt liquor.

The use of the malt liquor is an interesting juxtaposition to the brand’s touted high-end flavors, but there’s no complaining from our end. Combining Tempura and Malt Liquor holds a surprisingly nuanced and delicious flavor profile in every bite.
