Pineapple-On-Pizza Naysayers Might Be Swayed By This Creative Pizza
When it comes to the pineapple on pizza debate, I stand more in the middle on whether it belongs or not. To me, mixing the fruit with tomato sauce is a definite no, since the overall pie becomes way too sweet. When it’s balanced in flavor, though, I think pineapple and pizza can make for a pretty interesting combination.
Case in point, Orange County-based Jinny’s Pizzeria has a new Pineapple Teriyaki SPAM®️ Pizza that surprised me with its balance of flavor. It forgoes the traditional marinara for a plain base covered in mozzarella. That then gets covered in red onion, jalapenos, crispy bits of SPAM®️ Classic, pineapple, and a sweet teriyaki glaze for a mix of spicy, sweet, and tasty all at once.
Jinny’s knows what they’re doing when it comes to flavor, and their accolades from Orange County’s media outlets are concrete evidence of that. They’ve definitely stretched the envelope for me by putting pineapple on pizza. However, it’s flavorsome balance with the salty SPAM®️ Classic makes me willing to join the pro-pineapple camp when it comes to this particular pie. And who knows? Maybe it could convince some staunch naysayers to give pineapple on pizza a chance.
