Shake Shack Turns French Onion Soup Into Burgers, Fries, And Its First-Ever Onion Rings
Shake Shack knows French Onion Soup has its fans—but let’s be honest, it also has its shortcomings. Burnt tongues. Overflowing bowls. Cheese that doubles as a medieval weapon. And soggy bread that probably should have tapped out earlier in the meal.
This fall, Shake Shack is trying something different: taking all the decadent French Onion flavors and building them into burgers, fries, and (finally) onion rings—a Shake Shack menu first.
Dropping September 9 via the Shack App (and everywhere September 12), the lineup includes:
- French Onion Soup Burger — Angus beef stacked with Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, crispy sweet onions, and roasted garlic parmesan aioli on a toasted potato bun.
- French Onion Soup ‘Shroom Burger — A crisp-fried portobello filled with muenster and cheddar, topped with caramelized onions and garlic parmesan aioli.
- French Onion Shack Stack – Because why not stack it at all? Angus beef patty plus a ‘Shroom Burger, layered with Gruyere, caramelized onions, and garlic parmesan aioli.
- Parmesan Garlic Fries — Crinkle cuts dusted with parmesan and paired with roasted garlic parmesan aioli.
- Onion Rings — For the first time, Shake Shack fans finally get beer-battered onion rings made with sweet Spanish onions.
It’s a bold move to remix a soup into burgers and sides, but it makes all the sense. Shake Shack isn’t exactly trying to beat French Onion Soup at its own game. They’re just cutting out the mess and giving you the flavor without the molten lava cheese burns.
The real wild card here? Those onion rings. Shake Shack stans have been asking for them forever, and they’ve finally arrived. Beer-battered, crispy, sweet, and the perfect vessel for any sauce on the menu.
French Onion Soup without the struggle sure has a nice ring to it.
