Here’s How The Mountain From ‘Game Of Thrones’ Stays Enormous

When you’re a particularly large man, you’re bound to get nicknames like “little guy” and “tiny.” When you’re what I imagine Costco would look like as a human, the nicknames stop stemming from sarcasm and start coming from a place of fear and respect. Enter “The Mountain.”

Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, also known as Gregor Clegane on Game of Thrones, aka “The Mountain,” was not always a gargantuan mound of human. Well, our friends over at GQ got the inside scoop on him and how he managed to get that big, how he maintained that bone-crushing mass and what kind of food he ate.

Check out the full interview with GQ here.

When Asked How Many Meals He Eats

“It’s probably six to eight meals a day.”

When Asked What Exactly He Eats

“I eat a lot of sweet potatoes, a lot of meat, fish, chicken, good fats like cocoa butter, almonds. I love greens, like spinach, avocado, broccoli. I eat very healthy overall—but because of my weight, I need fast carbs, easy carbs. So maybe before a training session or after a training session, I eat what I want.”

When Asked What He Ate After Beating A 1,000-Year-Old Record

“Big filet steak. Probably around one kilo.” (For those who don’t know metric conversions off the top of their heads, that’s roughly 2.2 lbs of meat.)

When Asked How Much The Random Shit He Pulls Weighs

“The airplanes can weigh from ten tons up to 12, 15, more maybe. It depends…but you know, it’s strapped to your body and you have a rope that you’re pulling.”

When Asked Who Won The Sparring Session Between He And Conor McGregor

“He was trying to punch me. I didn’t feel anything. [laughs]…He believes he won it. He does not know that I was taking it easy on him because he has a fight and I didn’t want to break him before the fight. He’s worked too much, so I didn’t want to break him.”

I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone that The Mountain eats a mountain of food every day. If you’re more interested in seeing Hafthór crush skulls with his thumbs, be sure to catch the season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones on April 24th on HBO.
