Denny’s Created Sneakers Filled With Real Maple Syrup
You can’t eat Denny’s newest creation, but it’s still dripping with syrup. In celebration of National Maple Syrup Day on December 17, the chain is dropping literal streetwear “drip” with the release of “Sticky Kicks,” the first-ever sneakers filled with real Denny’s syrup. The limited-edition sneakers were made in collaboration with footwear artist and designer Mache, whose work has been featured in Complex, Vibe, Hypebeast, and more.
“Sticky Kicks are impractical, unnecessary, and completely over the top, which is exactly why we love them,” said Ellie Doty, senior vice president and chief brand officer at Denny’s. “At Denny’s, syrup isn’t just something we serve. It’s part of who we are. It’s our golden thread. So, it only makes sense we’d be the first to turn it into fashion.”
Each pair features textured and patent leather and Denny’s iconic yellow, brown, and red colorway, with a white and yellow sole. On either side and on the toebox, a transparent panel encases real Denny’s syrup. The sneakers come with white laces, and the Denny’s logo is embossed on the outer heel.
The Sticky Kicks will drop exclusively at DinerDrip.com on December 17 at 12 p.m. EST. Denny’s Rewards members will get first access with a special code, an hour before it opens up on a first-come-first-serve basis. To become a Denny’s Rewards member, sign up here. The drippy kicks will be available in adult men’s sizes 8-13 and retail for $195.
“Sticky Kicks was just the right mix of over-the-top theming and maintaining the high standards of materials and fabrications that our sneakers are known for,” said shoe designer Dan Gamache, better known as Mache. “Though it had its sticky moments in the research and development phases, creating this true collector’s shoe is something we are all so proud of.”
Last but definitely not least, Denny’s left a disclaimer for fans looking to get their sticky fingers on the sneakers: “Do not puncture the shoes or eat the syrup from the shoes for any reason. These drips are for style only, so leave it that way.“
