Tokyo Extends Its Popular ‘Stranger Things’-Themed Pop-Up Cafe

Over the course of Netflix’s hit horror drama Stranger Things’ 4 season run, its undoubtedly become a worldwide phenomenon. With no wane in its popularity in sight, the pop culture appeal keeps spreading.

In Japan, Stranger Things has remained atop Netflix’s most streamed shows since season four debuted back in May. To feed the fan frenzy, local restaurant chain Pronto partnered with Netflix on a Stranger Things-themed pop-up cafe.

The themed attraction was recently extended until the end of December following its opening on July 6th in Tokyo’s fashionable Shibuya district. From demonic pasta to its retro 1980s playlist, the restaurant has been overflowing with demand.

CNN Travel reports, fans of the show lucky enough to snag a reservation get to experience Hawkins, Indiana seemingly first-hand as it features replicas of sets and shops from the show as well as the spooky Upside Down.

“Every day at midnight, I have been trying to book a table on my phone,” said 29-year-old mother Kimiko Nakae. “Finally there’s an opening today because someone had canceled the reservation.”

Patrons can snap a picture next to a life-sized demogorgon before enjoying show-inspired eats like Surfer Boy pizza or telekinetic wunderkind Eleven’s favorite, waffles.

With Japan experiencing a spike in COVID-19 cases, the upside to the Upside Down is that to experience the Stranger Things cafe you must secure a reservation and only 20 patrons are allowed in every hour.
