McDonald’s Creates A ‘McVegan’ Burger That Has The Internet Buzzing

Living the vegan life while getting fast food with your squad can be hard, especially at McDonald’s. In the United States, even the fries have animal-based ingredients that keep those avoiding meat away. However, it looks like that may change in the near future with a new McVegan burger that the fast food mega-chain is testing.

The new McVegan burger was just released for an official test in Tampere, Finland. It consists of a soy-based “burger patty” topped with veggies, pickles, ketchup, and McFeast sauce. It’s available on its own for 3 Euros or in a combo with fries (which, in Finland, are actually vegan), until November 21st.

So far, McDonald’s Finland has been getting some pretty positive feedback regarding their new vegan burger. Their marketing director, Christoffer Rönnblad, says that they feel “very positive” about this test.

Twitter users around the world have also gone nuts over the news, with many either playing the skeptic role or begging the golden arches to bring the vegan burger to their turf.

For now, McDonald’s has confirmed to TODAY that the vegan burger is expected to remain in Finland for the time being. However, given the popularity of plant-based eating in the United States and the rise of nearly identical burger substitutes, there’s definitely a wide window of opportunity for the chain to expand its vegan offering.
