The Secret To Keeping Food Fresh During ‘The Hunger Games’ Filming

“The Hunger Games” is known more for its ass-kicking heroine than it is for anything else, but when food pops up, it’s usually over-the-top and mind boggling.

As is the case in one of the bonus features in the 4-film collection, where Josh Hutcherson’s character, Peeta Mellark, is at a bougie party with so much food, the guests have to purposely get themselves sick in order to taste all the entrees.

Within that party is a little bit of movie magic involving a rib roast that had to be preserved for a whole day of filming.

They didn’t use a fake rib roast, as it’d be a shame to fabricate one of the main courses. What we learn from behind-the-scenes footage is that they used frozen roasts and torched the outer skin to give them that fresh-out-of-the-oven look.

With the middle of the roast still being cold, it was able to chill on-set without spoiling and pissing off Katniss.

The Hunger Games series is officially closed and as of March 22, all four films, along with hours of behind-the-scenes features will be available on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

May the roast be ever in your favor.
